🎙️TMIT 23: The Backstory Episode

How we arrived at "family culture" 🙌

Hi friends,

Tonight we are writing from Packwood, Washington, one week into our 2-week adventure exploring the national parks with the kids. Great weather, glacier-fed lakes, and just enough wildlife sightings to keep everyone excited (Jade literally almost ran into a deer yesterday 🦌 ). It’s such an invigorating place for families — if you ever plan a trip out here, we’re happy to share what we’ve learned. And if you’ve been before, we’d love to hear your highlights. 🏔️

Now onto this week’s episode…an episode that sat in a folder for months.

A few days after recording 01 Family Meetings, we sat down and hit record on a conversation about why we started this podcast. At the time, it felt premature. We didn’t yet know what The Most Important Thing would become—or if anyone would listen.

But we did have a feeling:

Family culture matters.

And more people will want to talk about it.

On this episode, we share:

  • Why building a strong family culture feels like our most important work, and why now.

  • How our careers in high-performance culture shape what we do at home.

  • The kind of community we hope to build with this podcast.

  • Why this project is as much a time capsule for our kids as it is a resource for other parents.

If you’ve ever wondered why we decided to start this journey —or if you just need a reminder that great things often begin as small, messy, imperfect ideas—this one’s for you.

Still climbing that mountain (literally!),
