🎙️TMIT 18: Facing Fear & Grief

Because building family culture isn't just about the good times.

Hi friends,

There’s a line in Brené Brown’s Wholehearted Parenting Manifesto that we’ve been sitting with:

“Together we will cry and face fear and grief. I will want to take away your pain, but instead I will sit with you and teach you how to feel it.”

It sounds so beautiful. And also… really hard?!

In this week’s episode, we talk about how we relate to fear and grief—and how we each tolerate these emotions in our kids, in one another, and in ourselves.

Danielle shares how her medical anxiety shows up like a freight train. Greg reflects on losing his parents twice—once in spirit, and once in body—and how grief can live in the imagined now, not just the past.

We also get into:

  • Why fear sometimes feels harder to sit with than grief

  • What it looks like to walk alongside a child in a spiral

  • The longing to fix someone else’s pain (and how it usually backfires)

  • Surrender, safety, and why joy depends on trust

TMIT About Facing Fear & Grief

Our job is not to rescue anyone from these difficult emotions, but rather to be present with one another and connect in a new way.

🧡 TMIT Teammates #2: Julianne Annunziata Peters đ꧎

Last week, we were joined by our dear friend and neighbor, first in Pelham, now in Florida—Julianne Annunziata Peters, for a very special in-person edition of TMIT Teammates.

Julianne shared the story of her family’s move from NYC to Delray Beach, how a serendipitous beach moment (thanks to our daughters!) brought us back into each other’s lives after decades, and how the lasting influence of her mother continues to shape how she parents her own daughter.

It’s a story about roots, reinvention, and the kind of legacy that shows up in handwritten recipe boxes and quiet moments at the dinner table.
